Chery Group has expanded its global operations, officially opening a European Operations Centre in Barcelona, alongside a new Spain-based R&D institute.

The Barcelona hub—Chery’s first overseas regional operations centre—will oversee the brand’s European business, including compliance, supply chain, finance and public affairs, supporting continued growth across the region.

Chery says Europe remains a key strategic market, both for sales and for advancing new technologies. The newly established R&D facility will focus on electrification, intelligent mobility and sustainability, aligned with European regulatory standards.

The announcement follows strong growth in Europe, with Chery now present in 18 markets and serving more than 100,000 customers. Sales across the UK and EU rose significantly in early 2026, driven in part by demand for new energy vehicles.

Chery’s localisation strategy has also taken shape in Spain through its partnership with EV Motors to revive the EBRO brand, reactivating a manufacturing facility in Barcelona and creating more than 1,000 local jobs.

The company says its “local-for-local” approach—developing vehicles and operations tailored to regional markets—will continue to underpin its global expansion.

For Australian audiences, the move signals Chery’s increasing investment in global R&D and electrification, which is expected to influence future product development and technology offerings across markets including Australia.

Chery Motor will use the upcoming Beijing Motor Show 2026 to showcase its latest push into electrification, intelligent technology and expansion. Highlighting advances in hybrid and EV powertrains, connectivity and safety.
