Chery has taken automotive safety testing to new heights, completing South Africa’s first-ever dual-vehicle collision test with its flagship Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid , reaffirming its commitment to world-class standards and family protection on the road.

On August 20, two Tiggo 9 Super Hybrids were driven towards each other at 50 km/h in a 50% offset head-on collision—one of the most severe and common real-world crash scenarios for right-hand drive markets like Australia. Despite the intensity of the impact, the results were conclusive:

  • The passenger cabin remained completely intact with no deformation to the A-, B-, or C-pillars.
  • All airbags—including a driver’s knee airbag and far-side airbag—deployed instantly and correctly.
  • Seatbelt pre-tensioners and the fuel system operated flawlessly.
  • All four doors opened normally post-collision, and hazard lights activated automatically to assist with safety and rescue response.
